Winter Craft Ideas for the Kids: Turn Your Home into a Winter Wonderland!

snowflake stickers Keeping the kids busy while you tend to your Christmas “To Do” list can be a challenge. If it’s too cold to send them outside to play and you don’t want them sitting in front of the television, get them involved in some Christmas crafts. Winter craft ideas for kids can keep you sane and encourage them to enjoy some creative fun.

Craft Ideas Your Kids Can Do

  1. Homemade Wrapping Paper. Use wrapping paper scraps or Christmas stickers to help decorate brown paper or butcher paper. Additionally, kids can use paints, oil pastels, rubber stamps and just about any other medium to make their own wrapping paper for Christmas.
  2. Christmas Stars (or Snowflakes). Cut a cardboard toilet paper tube in one-inch wide pieces. Crease the ends to make the circles into petal shapes. Glue the ends together to form a star or flower. Brush each with liquid glue, and then dip in glitter. Hang up with a string.
  3. Popsicle Stick Snowmen. Markers, buttons, toothpicks and other odds and ends can be used to decorate popsicles sticks as snowmen. If you have fabric scraps, add these to the mix so kids can use them for hats, scarves or clothing.
  4. Baked Clay Ornaments. Give the kids some modeling clay, a rolling pin and cookie cutters so they can make a variety of baked clay ornaments for winter holidays or year-round.
  5. Marshmallow Art. Young children will enjoy gluing mini marshmallows, raisins, buttons and other small craft items to colored construction paper to make their own winter-themed art. This project can also be used to make homemade Christmas cards.

Family Activity or Do-It-Yourself for Kids

These winter craft ideas for kids can be done as family activities or as DIY activities for kids. Older children and teens particularly like to do things independently. Consider your child’s age as you select a winter craft to ensure the activity isn’t too easy or too difficult or frustrating. Wintertime crafts can make the long, dreary days of winter feel a lot brighter and more fun.
