5 Things To Do For Yourself, Now That The Kids Are Back In School

Back-to-school

The kids are back in school and you have time for yourself again. If you’re wondering what to do with the extra time on your hands, we have a few suggestions for some fun things to spoil yourself.

  1. Book a personal massage or spa day. Take an afternoon off from all those demanding mommy duties to enjoy a muscle relaxing, tension relieving, bliss inducing personal massage. Let a professional massage therapist soothe away your troubles for a little while, as you take advantage of the distraction free hours a school day affords. Get a new hairdo, mani/pedi, facial, foot massage, wax away the rough edges, or do all of the above. Look online for a local special or Groupon to save some money. Many times, you can find a special for as much as 50% off the price of an hour-long session at a local spa. You’ll not only look and feel fabulous when all is said and done, but you’ll be energized and in a good mood, which is a great deal for both you and the whole family.
  2. Hire a maid service for the day. Imagine the joy of letting someone else clean up after the kids for once. What will you do with the time this saves you? Anything you want! Go shopping, visit a friend you’ve been meaning to spend time with, or just kick back on the porch with a cup of tea while someone else does the dishes, dusts the furniture, and scrubs the toilets. Take a deep breath, and enjoy some “me time” for once!
  3. Sip and read. You know that book you’ve been meaning to read, but just haven’t had time for yet? Grab it and a favorite mug, take them to your favorite local coffee shop (or the one you’ve been meaning to check out) and order a latte. Kick back and relax with your book, coffee mug, and a biscotti (or two), and don’t you dare feel guilty!
  4. Get a jump on the holidays. Without the demands and distractions of little ones, you can finally take time to do a little online shopping. Before you know it, Thanksgiving and Christmas time will be upon us, and it’s never too early to start preparing! Take a day to browse some online holiday specials, choose some new fall décor items for your home, stock up on wrapping paper, ribbons and bows, Christmas cards, unique personalized decorations, ornaments, and gifts for your loved ones. Don’t forget yourself, either! If you haven’t already done so, take advantage of our website’s new “wish list” feature and build a list of your own for your family to shop from.
  5. Have lunch with the girls. Corral a few of the girlfriends you haven’t had time for, especially if they also have little ones back in school, and have lunch. Whether you dress up and check out a new restaurant or get together at someone’s house and watch a chick flick while you munch, you’ll enjoy some “kid free” time with the girls. Tip: Don’t spend all morning preparing lunch for the gang (unless this is your way of relaxing). Pick up some takeout, have a potluck, or have pizza delivered. The key is not to make more work for yourself; this is supposed to be fun time for you!

We hope you take our suggestions to heart and spend some time and money on yourself. Now that the kids are out from under foot for a few hours each day, you need to take time out for a little pampering and bring out your best self.
