When it Rains, it Pours: 5 Ideas for Indoor Fun

A rainy day can put a damper on summer fun, but it doesn’t have to. There are plenty of things kids can do inside to have fun and stay busy. Be prepared for the next time you find yourself indoors by planning a few rainy day activities for kids.

Have a Puzzle Contest
Make putting together a puzzle even more enjoyable by turning it into a contest. Give each child a puzzle that’s appropriate for his or her age level. The child who is able to put the puzzle together the quickest wins.

Hold Story Time
Spend some quality time with your kids next time it rains by reading a child’s favorite book together. If your child is a beginning reader, encourage him to read a book aloud to you. If you read the book to your child, remember to do funny voices for each character to make it even more fun.

Build a Masterpiece
A thunderstorm is the perfect time for kids to get started on their building block masterpiece. Set aside an area in the rec room or living room so that they have plenty of space to build.

Bake Some Treats
Use a rainy day as an excuse to bake some cupcakes or other treats with your kids. Encourage your child to express creativity when decorating the baked goods with sprinkles or frosting.

Puzzle Books
A puzzle book full of word games, mazes and other activities can keep a kid occupied for hours. Give your child a pencil to trace through the mazes and a set of crayons so that she can color in the pictures.
