But what do you do if you’ve got an oddly-shaped gift? How do you wrap something that doesn’t come in a box? Don’t waste your money at the gift-wrapping service counter. Try out these wrapping hacks for those hard-to-wrap gifts.

Oddly-Shaped Items

For items that don’t come in a box or are oddly shaped, make your own bag out of wrapping paper. It’s pretty simple – all you need is wrapping paper, scissors, and tape! Watch this video on how to fold the paper into a bag. Another option for smaller items is to use a brown paper bag and decorate it with drawings, bows, or other accessories.

Large Items

For items that are too big for standard wrapping paper, try using fabric instead of paper. The lotus wrapping method works well with fabric and large items. It’s a stress-free way to make your gift-wrapping look elegant and refined without spending too much time on it. For a more rustic look, if you’ve got a large box, wrap it with several pieces of different wrapping paper. It’ll give it a charming patchwork look.

Soft Items

If you don’t have a box for that sweater, you can always make your own bag as described above. Or try using a piece of cardboard (the front of a cereal box could work) and use it as a guide. Place the soft item on top of the cardboard and use the cardboard to make nice clean folds and edges.
